What the chart says
- The two do not trade off. Cities exist in every quadrant, which means "safe" and "female-skewed" is a real combination to look for rather than a compromise to accept.
Where this is wrong
- The Safety Index is perception-based and crowd-sourced. It is what residents report feeling, not a crime rate.
- Safety is a city-level figure; the ratio is census. They come from different sources and different dates.
- A city-wide safety number says nothing about a specific neighbourhood at a specific hour.
