Countries with more women than men

32 of the 71 countries measured here have more women than men aged 20–39, counted from each country’s own census. That is not the list you get from total population, and the difference is not small.

The 32 countries, fewest men first

Men per 100 women in the 20–39 band. Under 100 means the women outnumber the men. Click any column to sort.

Why the usual answer is a different list

The published sex ratio for a country is normally the whole population, every age at once. Women live longer, so the oldest bands are heavily female and they pull the national figure under 100 on their own. It is a real number about a country. It is not a number about who is single at 30.

25 of the 71 countries here are female-majority across all ages and male-majority at 20–39. Pick a destination off the usual list and these are the ones you can get wrong.

It runs the other way too. Myanmar reads male-majority over all ages and female-majority at 20–39.

Both columns come from the same census counts, summed over the same units. The only difference is which age bands are added up. A ratio is a supply number, not a measure of anyone’s chances. Full method. Data updated July 29, 2026.

A ratio is supply. It is not your odds.

These columns count men and women in the same band. They do not account for the age gap men actually date across, which overstates the competition in a young market and understates it in an old one. Pro adds the dating-pool model, corrected for that gap and computed per city, plus the sub-national map and rankings behind every country deep-dive. One payment, no subscription.
